A Note From Your Editor

Lately I've received several emails of Presurfer readers who told me they were concerned about the links and pictures on the right-hand side. They found them offensive and not up to the standard they were used to. They said the links sometimes pointed to sites with questionable content. Although these links got me as much as 50,000 visitors last year, I decided to look into this matter.

Although I'm not offended by these links myself, I can understand the worries of some of my readers. Especially since this is a site for all ages. The opinion of my readers is important. I'm having a lot of fun 'making' The Presurfer. But I don't do it just for myself. The recognition of people who take the time to read The Presurfer is much more important.

And I have to agree, more and more the links did indeed point to questionable content. Therefore, I have decided to remove these links and pictures.

Chimpage

Chimpage presents the A-Z of chimpanzees. It's 1% satire and 99% chimpanzees. It features the lives of fictitious chimp characters, along with profiles of newly discovered chimp species like the Californian Noise Chimp.

Visit Chimpchester, the City of Chimps. Chimpchester is a small city located in the North West of Chimpland. Sited on the River Chimpwell, a settlement has stood on this spot since Roman Chimp General Marcus Chimpus recognised the strategic location and constructed a Fort here.

1959 Goggomobil

Toy robot collector Justin Pinchot shows off his latest find: A cherry red German 1959 Goggomobil TS 250 Coupe microcar that gets better mileage than a Prius.

Goggomobil was a series of microcars produced in the Bavarian town Dingolfing after World War II by Glas. The Goggomobil T250 was introduced at the 1954 IFMA international bicycle and motorcycle show. The T250 was a conventional-looking two door sedan with a rear-mounted 245 cc air cooled two-stroke straight twin engine.

The Grand Rapids LipDub

American film critic and screenwriter Roger Ebert called this 'The Greatest Music Video Ever Made.' The Grand Rapids LipDub video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs.

Participants were lip-synching to Don McLean's 'American Pie.' The video was created as an official response to a Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a 'dying city.'

Comedian/Filmmaker Mark Malkoff sets out with personal trainer Robert Brace in an attempt to get six-pack abs within thirty days. Will Mark survive working out three times a day and being forced to eat 330 hard boiled egg whites in a month? Some of the places he worked out during the month included Grand Central Station, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Downtown 1 train.

Bigfoot Sighting

A woman from Spokane, Washington, USA, was hiking with her friends at Downriver Park over the weekend when they captured Bigfoot. The woman, only known as 'Samantha', says her iPhone inadvertently picked up the mythical beast. While hiking, we accidentally caught an image of bigfoot walking through the woods. I didn't even notice until I got home and saw it on the computer!

The Man Who Swims With Coelacanths

Marjorie Courtinay-Latimer was the young curator of a natural history museum on South Africa's east coast. Shortly before Christmas in 1938, local fishermen brought her a fish unlike any they'd ever seen. Caught at a depth of 240 feet, it was five feet long, covered in bony scales and had fins reminiscent of legs. It was a coelacanth. There was just one catch: Coelacanths were extinct, and had been for 70 million years.

In 1986, German explorer and then-freelance photographer Hans Fricke convinced a magazine editor to send him and a submarine to the Comoros Islands. Since then he's led more than 400 dives, helping to produce much of what is now known about coelacanths.

Odd Rodent Rediscovered

Conservationists in Colombia, South America, recently had an unexpected surprise: the rediscovery of a mammal that hadn't been seen for 113 years. Known as the red-crested tree rat (Santamartamys rufodorsalis), the guinea pig-sized rodent was thought to be extinct until one randomly emerged from the forest at the El Dorado Nature Preserve.

Researchers Lizzie Noble and Simon McKeown were looking for amphibians and just happened to be standing right there at that very moment and were able to snap a few pictures before the little critter headed back into forest.

Tour Of Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans

When an amusement park is abandoned and an eerie silence settles over the rusty and crusty decay, the setting seems to twist the atmosphere of enthusiastic excitement into a suffocating blanket of dread. The place takes on creepy vibes and freaks people out.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and ripped the heart of fun and the amusement out of this park. Almost six years later, Six Flags in New Orleans is unnaturally silent, no lines and no laughter.

How To Send And Reply To Email

You think you know how to send and reply to email? This article is from Matt Might, Assistant Professor at the University of Utah, USA.

The problem with email is that people think it's electronic mail. Email is not mail in electronic form. You are not writing a letter. Few send readable email or tap the deliberative potential of the medium. For example, email should be formatted into points - not paragraphs.

And, you should not always reply above the message you were sent. Many of these tips are already widely followed in academia, where debate and discussion over email have been taking place for decades.
