Oddly-shaped, brightly-coloured or even transparent. These are some of the bizarre creatures that scientists did not even know existed until recently. They are among a host of new animals just uncovered in the hidden depths of the Atlantic Ocean during a new study which has 'revolutionised' thinking about deep-sea life.
A group of creatures thought to be close to the missing evolutionary link between backboned and invertebrate animals are among those captured by the team on the MAR-ECO international research programme.
