The Antikythera mechanism is an ancient Greek clockwork machine found in a shipwreck, that has taken more than a century to decipher. British scientist Michael Wright reconstructed the mechanism including all the known features of this complex device.

When I was a kid, I remember reading books about cathedral construction, and I marveled to my dad how intricate the work was, especially given the time period. My dad told me to remember that people before the 20th century weren't dumb, they just didn't have the same technology we do. Ugh, looks like dad is right again.
