The 'First Lady' is a title which refers to the official hostess of the White House. The First Lady is commonly thought to be the wife of the president. But who was actually the first-ever First Lady?

If you guessed the logical answer, you would have said it was Martha Washington. But actually, the title First Lady was never used regarding Martha during her lifetime. Martha Washington was often addressed as 'Lady Washington.' The wife of John Tyler, the 10th U.S. president, liked to be called 'Queen of the House.'
