Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett has always had an affinity for monsters. As a kid growing up in '60s psychedelic San Francisco, he became obsessed with watching horror movies and reading comics. Today, he's one of the world's top horror memorabilia collectors with exhibitions, festivals, and a book around his obsession.
Collectors Weekly talked to Hammett about why he connects to Frankenstein and other outcasts, how he hung out with R. Crumb as a kid, how the hippie movement led to gore-filled metal music, and why he always looks at the dark side of life.
