Janis Joplin (1943-1970) was a US singer-songwriter who first rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of the psychedelic/acid rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. She had one number one hit, 'Me and Bobby McGee.'

This 1965 Porsche was purchased in 1968 by Janis Joplin, who immediately engaged Dave Richards to customize the car with a kaleidoscopic mural. The dramatic artwork, known as 'The History of the Universe', included such graphics as butterflies and jellyfish, as well as a portrait of Joplin with members of the band.
