The United States government has created the world's most expensive jar of peanut butter. Is it laced with pure gold? Coated in rare white truffle dust? Could it be hypo-allergenic? No, no, and no.
This $761 jar of
peanut butter (officially known as Standard Reference Material No. 2387) was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Its high price has nothing to do with the ingredients in the jar. It has to do with the labor involved: Dozens of scientists and lab technicians around the country spent time analyzing the peanut butter.
