There's more to the Netherlands than the red light districts, coffee shops, tulips, wind mills and wooden shoes. There are things about the Netherlands and the Dutch that you'll surely fall in love with... that is if you could get past the initial shock factor. What are the things you might be surprised by on your visit to the Netherlands?

Personally (being Dutch) I think it's easy to criticize the majority of the things listed (Apart from the bikes, although I know no one who has 2).

I'm Dutch too and I think the majority of the things listed are not far fetched.

Apart from the Dutch being stingy. That's absolutely not true. And the part about nose picking is just nonsense.

I think there's an old joke about Dutch frugality. After hearing a knock on the door the Dutchman calls out "Who's there?". "The butcher" comes the reply. "OK, slip the meat under the door"!

I think Brits would also be a little shocked to discover that the Dutch eat smoked horse meat for breakfast (the picture's there but no transalation of 'paardenrookvlees').
