Wasabi: Why Invest In 'The Hardest Plant To Grow'?

Wasabi is a member of the Brassicaceae family, which includes cabbages, horseradish, and mustard. Its stem is used as a condiment and has an extremely strong flavor.

For nearly 30 years, Brian Oates has devoted himself to a single pursuit: setting up the first commercial wasabi farm in North America. Dozens of others in the US and Canada have tried to grow the plant but almost all have failed. The reason is simple: wasabi is deemed by most experts to be the most difficult plant in the world to grow commercially.

This is the reason that most commercial wasabi is just horseradish dyed green.
