Collectives in nature can have millions of individuals that cooperate to form complex structures. Creating these abilities in artificial systems remains a significant challenge.
Scienrists at the Harvard Scool of Engineering developed a simple low-cost robot called 'Kilobot' which allowed them to produce a 1024-robot swarm for testing collective behaviors.
