Peafowl first came to the Palos Verdes Peninsula almost a century ago when Palos Verdes founder Frank Vanderlip received 12 birds as a gift. Now, there are hundreds. The birds roam streets and roofs in the city of Rolling Hills Estates. Some residents love the peafowl and some wish the city would take more control.

I used to live in Palos Verdes. The video does not give any idea of the sounds peacocks make--they sound like children being tortured. And they produce enough poop to stink things up. I remember a neighbor from Japan called me to come out because she was amazed to see them. She didn't want to hear about the problems. Fortunately, they moved on.
Just in the LA Times a few days ago: people are killing peafowl with poison, bullets, even arrows. This is highly illegal (animal abuse), and my favorite comment from a resident was that if people didn't like peafowl, the people should move because they didn't understand that the peafowl belonged there.
