Why Aren't Stories Like '12 Years a Slave' Told At Southern Plantation Museums?

Watching '12 Years a Slave' - a reality-based slave narrative up for nine Oscars this Sunday - feels like coming face to face with true evil. Yet, in the South, plantation-house tours focus on the antiques and 'antebellum splendor' the enslavers enjoyed.

Collectors Weekly talked with geographers and historians who've studied plantation house museums to learn how these sites mislead tourists about the real experience of slavery.
