Formula 1 2013 Vs 2014 Sound Comparison - Melbourne

Formula 1 used normally-aspirated 2.4L V8 engines in 2013. This year they are using 1.6L V6 turbo engines armed with energy recovery systems, designed to give the sport a greener image. But not everyone is happy with the sound of the turbos.

They say the new engines could prove a turnoff for spectators accustomed to having their eardrums assaulted by a barrage of noise. Decide for yourself. Here's a sound comparison between the 2013 and the 2014 engines.

I like it better. Sounds more space-age.

They used to sound like sewing machines. Now they sound like blenders. If you want sound, watch NASCAR.

It's the turbochargers that have muffled them.
