What Would Happen If Oxygen Were To Disappear for Five Seconds?

Ever wondered what would happen if oxygen were to disappear for 5 seconds? You wouldn't believe it but the results would be devastating. All pieces of untreated metal would instantly spot-weld to one another. Everyone's inner ear would explode. Every building made out of concrete would turn to dust. And very living cell would explode in a haze of hydrogen gas.

Most of these are wrong...

Sunburn in 5 seconds? Not a chance. Our ears are able to withstand dramatic drops in pressure, at the rate of 1 atmosphere per second, perhaps more. It is sudden increase that endangers our eardrums, and requires more gradual active equalization. The rest are silly because the same could be said for any common element, or for electrons, protons, etc.

I'm so glad that there are people out there who wonder about the absolutely impossible. Why can't these people think about things like curing cancer or something, instead of wasting our time with pondering questions like "I wonder what would happen if all oxygen disappeared for 5 seconds?"
