Have you got a case of 'gap-osis?' Do you have 'dishpan hands?' Apparently, women in the 1930s did. These vintage ads show that making women anxious has been a popular advertising strategy for more than 100 years.
Collectors Weekly talks to a vintage magazine collector about her fascination with these ads. It's a disturbing world they depict: Women could smell in myriad ways. Lysol was sold as douche to improve 'feminine hygiene' and prevent pregnancy. A man would run out on his wife for something as small as a tear in her stockings.
