Last Monday, Maurice Sendak died. He was an American writer and illustrator of children's literature. He was best known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963.
When Sendak started illustrating and writing for children, he vowed that he wouldn't write stories of sunshine and rainbows, because that's not real life. Here are a few other things about Maurice Sendak's real life you may not have known.
