10 Of The Most Common Surnames In The World

A surname is a name added to a given name and is part of a personal name. In many cases, a surname is a family name. In some cultures, the surname may be a patronymic or matronymic. Some cultures, for example the Burmese, large population of South Indians and some Javanese, do not use surnames.

Some surnames are rare, and the others are so common that their population can be measured by millions. This is a list of some of the most common surnames in the world.

In some cultures the given name comes last and the family name first.

You forgot "Patel". It seems everyone from India is named Patel.

Everyone? Well it's a fairly common name in Gujarat, but that certainly doesn't translate to "everyone from India" by any means. Although it seems that there is some sort of rule in television that an Indian character in a sitcom must be called Patel. Or to put it another way your attitude is a sign of casual racism.

Is your name Patel ???

Kinda disappointed over the fact that Khan didn't make it on this list as well.

Oh Gareth! You really do epitomize a certain kind of silly person. It's not racist to acknowledge that Patel is an extremely common name in India...just as everyone seems to be called Jones in Wales or Smith in England (obviously they're not!). I suspect you probably turn every comment section and forum thread into a race debate. Sober up your thinking dear boy.
