Invisible Snow

December 1, 2011. Quebec, Canada. Snow removal when there is no snow? My guess is they're checking something. But what? Can someone explain this?

it is probably a test run to check for potholes or even maybe they are forming the staff :)

Are the logging time or mileage on the machines so the can meet some quotas?
Maybe the drivers needed some extra money in their Christmas check?

Only in Canada!

They even rewrote the Wizard of Oz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWtG4bSKzs0

Maybe they are laying down a track on their GPS that they can follow when the snow arrives?
Fewer curbs hit in the Winter.

I would agree with gbradley, but have another thought. Perhaps, in addition to laying down a track, the route data on all the sidewalks to be scraped will be fed into a larger database and then a program will come up with the most efficient paths for each of the sidewalk plows to follow.

Just guessing.

They're highly probably told to plow so they plow.

@gbradley GPS just isn't that accurate.

@Gareth I think it is.
Oh wait, maybe not in Canada. ;-)

I don't think it's about GPS. I think it's telling that the machines are actually scraping. That's odd because where there is no snow or ice, scraping causes damage and looks ugly. I don't have an answer though..

@gbradley in order to be of any use in that situation it would have to be accurate down to an inch. It isn't. Period.
