Humorous Phases of Funny Faces is a movie from 1906 created by James Stuart Blackton. It is regarded the earliest surviving American animated film in the strict sense of single exposures of drawings simulating movement.

I LOVE really ancient film clips like this one. It was the dawn of the "motion picture" technology, and these clips are the "geeks" of their time playing with the mysterious new tech to see what it does, how it can be used -- and silly fun things you can do with it.
