Back in the 1950s We had Battleship linoleum on our kitchen floor. It had to be washed and waxed weekly. In order for we boys to listen to the hockey game or the boxing on radio we had to polish the floor after waxing. We had this big retangular iron weight with a handle to get the initial polish part started and then we donned two pairs of heavy, thick, homemade socks on our feet and ran from the living room through the kitchen back and forth until that linoleum shined like a mirror.
