Vortex Cannon

Bang Goes the Theory is a British television science series, co-produced by the BBC and the Open University. Presenter Jem Stansfield demonstrates a vortex cannon. A vortex cannon generates vortex rings, typically using acetylene-air or hydrogen–oxygen explosions.

Vortex rings are rolling donut-shapes of fluid that move through the air. Because of the way they rotate, a vortex ring can hold itself together and travel for quite a distance.

A simple Vortex launcher can be build with a can and a rubber balloon.
