Cycling In The Netherlands In The 1950s

Cycling is a common and popular method of transportation and recreation in the Netherlands. The country is well equipped with cycle-paths and other segregated cycle facilities. Cycleways come with their own sets of rules and systems - including traffic signals/lights, tunnels and lanes.

Nearly 85 percent of the population in the Netherlands own at least one bicycle. There are about 16 million bicycles in Holland, slightly more than one for every inhabitant. About 1.3 million new bicycles are sold every year. This video shows a collection of colorful images of the Dutch cycling in the 1950s.

Truly beautiful. And not a single helmet from start to finish!
