Lately I've been noticing that stuff often shows up on presurfer when it's already kind of stale. More postsurfer than presurfer. It's gone from being of one of the four or five sites I automatically check every morning, to being in a folder of things I check a few times a week when I have time to kill.
I rarely read the comments so maybe you've been getting that kind of complaint a lot and you're making fun of it here? If not .... duuuuude! The video has 20 million hits! It's nearly a year old. It's been auto-tuned and parodied to death. The auto-tuned version has over ten million hits. It's been mentioned in the comic Fox Trot. The guy in the video has been interviewed on CNN and everywhere else. This video got him so much attention Microsoft used him in a TV ad.
Gerard, I think he expects you to always be ahead of the curve (which often you are... I usually see things here that I don't see on other sites). But this video has been all over the world already, so it's a little surprising for you to post it now.
By the way... don't know why but in the last month or so my Safari browser misplaces the videos on your site down around a half inch, sort of covering the text underneath. Is it me or you?
Hey Gerard - January 2010 called and he wants his meme back! I agree, you are turning into the post-surfer instead of the pre-surfer... If you lose your relevance, you'll lose your audience...
Just trying to keep the Presurfer on track, G! Love your work, keep it fresh!
I think, just for punishment, presurfer must also post ALL the parodies, ALL the tributes, the auto tune versions AND the Microsoft commercial with the dude in it, just like thedailywh.at did a year ago.
It takes like 2 seconds to register you've seen the video and to scroll down. Cut the presurfer some slack!!
I can't see myself leaving this site just because there a some things I have already seen elsewhere...I just filter them out and move onto the stuff that I haven't seen before. Nuff said.
@JoeB: I'm not using a Mac, so I really can't tell where the problem lies.
As for the content on The Presurfer, when I started this blog over 10 years ago, I had one scoop after another. Because there weren't so many weblogs at that time.
Now, with millions of blogs it's hard to find something that hasn't already been posted at another site.
Besides, I always post items that I find somewhere else. So it always has been posted before.
And if that is not allowed, then the vast majority of weblogs can close their doors.
However, since I'm not someone who shoves critique aside, I will look into this and find ways to improve The Presurfer.
Unlike many other cutting-edge sites like those on the Gawker network, the Presurfer is edited by just a single person. It's awesome.
I spend a lot of time on the internet and get around quite a bit. I've seen quite a lot of stuff. What makes the Presurfer great isn't that it's on the cutting edge of internet culture, it's that it features hidden gems like "Lofoten - Arctic Circle Anomaly". It's posts like that which have kept me coming back for six years now.
Gerard I wouldn't pay too much attention to people offering little criticisms like mr. anonymous up there. You do a great job and I always see tons of stuff here that I don;t see anywhere else. I've also noticed a few bigger blogs that link to your site when you hit on something good, so you are keeping on the cutting edge. I love the presurfer. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

And your point is...?

Keep up the good work, Gerard.
I read your site every day, you are still way ahead of the pack
Sure, sure, I've seen the video before. But look..."12 comments!" I'd better check this out.
And the self-righteousness and earnest criticism of a site *THAT THE COMMENTER HAS PROBABLY VISITED, REGULARLY, FOR YEARS* is...pure gold.
"Oooh, oooh, oooh, I found a mistake! I am superior"
