Wonderful article, reveiling the harsh reality of todays life: people are moving way too fast and don't take the time to just take a few minutes to pause their lives to notice the real beauty around them. They don't even notice their kids can and they even take that away by forcing them to do the same. It's a shame.
Maybe another interesting fact about that field experiment. The article (not the one linked from the blog) about that experiment won the Pulitzer Prize in 2008.
Nothing about this is sad. He played in a Metro Station, where most people walking past are in a hurry to be somewhere. It's not surprising they couldn't stop to watch.

I have no idea who this violinist is, but is this unusual for the DC Metro to have someone playing music? We have buskers in the subway all over the place in NYC and most people ignore them. If they are good they can make a bit of money but nobody stands in place and watches them play while their train comes and goes. It's just background noise.
