Four-Inch Computer

A company called Xi3 Corporation introduces the Xi3 Modular Computer, a cube-shaped computer measuring less than 4-inch per side. Not only it is small, the modular computer is also power-saving requiring an average of 20 Watts or less to operate.

The Xi3 has six USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, DisplayPort, ethernet and a special 'Xi3 Port.' The Xi3 Modular Computer has 3 central processing units available: 1Ghz, 1.8Ghz and 2.2Ghz.

"The price starts at $849" -- pretty steep for a 1 GHz machine, small as it may be.

I can see future computers trending this way, though. Being just basically the processing unit and we all plug in our multi-terrabyte HDs (containing the OS, etc.) and external video processor systems and so forth into it.

It'd beat having to buy an entire new, huge box when all you really want is a better motherboard and CPU.

i don't understand: why that many usb ports? pcs just need 2: 1 for kboard and 1 for mouse. usb is useless for any other thing. it's a cpu hog. firewire is clearly missing there. eSata helps, of course.

WordyGrrl, no one does that. only dumb ppl buy the entire thing. normal ppl but the motherboard, cpu, disk, memory, etc they need when they need.
