Replica German U-Boat Cruises On British Canal

Dark and menacing, it prowls the water, torpedo tubes at the ready. But this German U-boat's captain will never have to issue the order: 'Dive, Dive, Dive', because it is a replica canal boat - which floats in just six feet of water. The 70 foot long 'killer of the seas' surfaced last Wednesday on Leeds-Liverpool canal near Chorley, UK.

It's the creation of Cyril Howarth, 78, who build an exact replica of the craft which sank 3,000 Allied ships during the Second World War. Cyril spent £25,000 ($40,000) on the shell of a traditional narrow boat and engine before spending a further £25,000 instructing a Liverpool-based yard to build him an identical U-boat super structure.

Exact replica of what, exactly? I've never seen a U-boat which looked even remotely like this. Hull-wise, its just an ordinary canal-boat, like all the others out there, except it has no windows.
As for its conning tower with hydroplanes.. U-boats didn't have them. This thing's like a ten-year-old's school project u-boat.

I live and work near the Leeds-Liverpool canal. I'd say he won't get this thing very far, it won't fit under a lot of the bridges.
As for floating in six feet of water, HA! the Leeds Liverpool canal was originally planned to have a maximum depth of five feet.
It's nowhere near that now, mostly between three and four feet.
The man's a numpty.

That looks like "exact replica" of septic tank, not a real U-boat.
