What A New Car Really Costs

What does a new 2010 model car really cost after you drove it for 5 years? You have to consider financing, registration, insurance, maintenance and repairs, fuel, and the lost value after 5 years. For example, if you buy a 2010 Chevy Malibu for $21,800 that car will have cost you $55,830 after 5 years.

Depreciation is an allocation of cost over the life of the asset (car). Putting both in the same calculation is very "misleading".

It would be, if they did. But they don't, so it's not.
