Astronaut Drinks Coffee In Space

When Dr. Don Pettit lived aboard the International Space Station in 2002, he became known for his 'Saturday Morning Science' sessions, during which he would demonstrate really cool, simple microgravity experiments.

Earlier this month, Pettit returned to space, this time as a member of space shuttle Endeavour's crew on a mission to upgrade the outpost. In this video, which he later narrated for Mission Control, Dr. Pettit demonstrated his take on a zero-gravity coffee cup.

A whole new world to reinvent. I hope I live to see it. Did it take as long to think up the cup as it did to explain it?

Maybe he's drinking tea. But it is not coffee, for sure.

It's coffee alright. On the bag he's holding in his right hand it says it's coffee.

He made a big prediction that this is how future people in space could drink their liquids. Um... isn't a straw a bit easier and practical?
Reminds me of a story of how NASA spent millions to develop a pen that can write in space. The Russians just used a pencil. ;-)
