Crash Test 1959 Car Vs 2009 Car

In the past 50 years car crashworthiness has improved. Demonstrating this was a crash test between a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu.

They wrecked a perfectly good 1959 Bel Air???

It wasn't perfectly good! Didn't you see how it totally crumpled in that collision? Clearly we're better off without it!

:P

ARRRRGHHHH what a waste!

Ahhh... the arrogance of the IIHS. Funded by our insurance premiums to do crash tests no one needs to see.

It is interesting that you nver see the engine of the ;59 car. Does the ;09 really drive through the engine>

This sucks. Did we really need that specific of a crash? That car managed to survive for 50 years only to have it arbitrarily destroyed in a test that is really only good for watching on the internet. I'm restoring a 62 Fairlane right now, and that makes this video even MORE painful to watch...
