Presurfer reader Bogdan has been developing a Firefox extension for unit, time zone and currency conversions since 2004. It's called the Converter. It converts either the selected measurement (via right click), or the entire page (via status bar icon).
The same code is now available as a cross-browser embeddable widget people can include on their websites. This contraption is called an Edget.
Here's an example. This is the original text:
Officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, Gregory Dunham, from California's Stockton, built the world's largest motorcycle. Greg spent three years in his workshop crafting this 11 feet tall, 20 feet long monster bike which is powered by a 8.2 litre engine. The motorcycle weighs 6,500 pounds.
Right-click your mouse to convert the entire page and you will see this:
Officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, Gregory Dunham, from California's Stockton, built the world's largest motorcycle. Greg spent three years in his workshop crafting this 11 feet (11 ft = 3.35 m) tall, 20 feet (20 ft = 6.1 m) long monster bike which is powered by a 8.2 litre V8 engine. Hi Gerard
I noticed that you tend to use non-metric (or even non standard) american units in your posts.
This is friendly to some but enoying to others.
As you are Dutch yourself I suppose you have to do the conversion to non-metric for your posts. So could you also add the metric values in future posts.
Thanks
Hi base80. I'm using non-metric units in my posts because 70% of my readers are from North-America.
But your suggestion to use metric and non-metric units is welcomed. I'll do that in future posts.
Doesn't this very post contain a solution?
