US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Committee said he was awarded it for 'his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples.' The committee highlighted Mr Obama's efforts to strengthen international bodies and promote nuclear disarmament.

It's now the "Not George Bush" prize.
I like Obama, but I don't see how he deserves the prize. What's next? An Oscar? A Pulitzer?
No, even a Pulitzer would make sense because of "The Audacity of Hope" but I can see how maybe in a few years he could have gotten a peace prize, but right now? Sure, he's trying to get stuff done, but sending a bill through congress is a much slower process. I would like to see him be recognized for his accomplishments, rather than his agenda.
Well he's not Bush, right? And that does make him perfectly qualified. So what's the problem?
Oh yeah. I'm sure he accomplished a lot in 11 days in office. Let's face it...too many people drank the Kool Aid and would follow this man off the edge of a cliff.
He was nominated 11 days after taking office. What sense does that make? He ran a good campaign, so he gets the Peace Prize? Lame.
They might as well change the name to "Nobel SPEECH prize".

My goodness! Your blog is European, and your readership very widely distributed. These can't all be wingnut Republicans. I read the panel's reasons, and think they want to reinforce his efforts at diplomacy and nuclear disarmament. And, as many have mentioned, he's NOT George W. Bush.
