Mind Control: Coming Soon To A Toy Store Near You

A look at an upcoming 'Star Wars'-themed toy that uses new technology to allow the user to levitate an object... with their mind. The Force Trainer (expected to be priced at $90 to $100) comes with a headset that uses brain waves to allow players to manipulate a sphere within a clear 10-inch-tall training tower.

It actually began a might earlier than this. For a number of year now it's existed as a psychologist's concentration training device for those with add, austism, aspergers, or simply those who would like to improve their concentration skills. It was/is called Neurofeedback, and it was done similarly with sticky nodes instead of a head device, and simple computer games instead of levitating ping pong balls with fans. Personally I think the computer games would be more fun than this.

I did a lot of research into mini-EEG devices for consumer applications while in college. It's nice to see a toy come out at last.

But in a few years, that thing will look so lame compared to our hands-free thought-powered cell phones that monitor our minds from fashionable berets.

There's an exibit like that at a local science centre in my town; it's been up for years. It's a two player hockey game sort where each player puts on a headband and uses their brain waves to move the ball within the closed table into the other person's net. There's even a screen in which you can see the waves that your brain is producing.
