Here in the Netherlands we call it a 'bakfiets', best translated as box bike. It's a bicycle with a large box on the front. In the past these bikes were used by Dutch bakers, milk men and grocers to deliver their goods.
Nowadays the mothers of Amsterdam use the box bike to transport their children, since there is not much space in the center of the city for cars. The majority of the pictures are made in the old center of Amsterdam and Amsterdam-South, two areas where the rich people of the city live.

They sell that brand of bicycle here, in my little pirate town in Florida. (The Dutch owner of the bike store is quite mad, however, and runs out into the street to accost the sightseeing trains that travel by his store.) Still, they are the loveliest bicycles and wonderfully crafted.
I'd like one!
What happened to the 'original' bakfiets?
