Visual Trace Route Tool

The Visual Trace Route Tool displays the path Internet packets traverse to reach a specified destination. The tool works by identifying the IP addresses of each hop along the way to the destination network address.

You can do a host trace or a proxy trace. A host trace goes from YouGetSignal (the site the Visual Trace Route Tool is hosted on) to the remote address. A proxy trace goes from your computer via You Get Signal to the remote address.

This is a neat tool, but it's pretty useless as a traceroute because it has to go through yougetsignal.com. It shows how you get to yougetsignal.com, and then how yougetsignal.com gets to the final destination. It does not, however, tell you what you typically need to know from traceroute—which is how you get to the final destination.

But it's still fun to watch the map unfold.
