The World's Strongest Dad

The story began in Winchester, Mass., 43 years ago, when Rick Hoyt was strangled by the umbilical cord during birth, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs. 'He'll be a vegetable the rest of his life' doctors told Dick Hoyt and his wife Judy. But the Hoyts weren't buying it.

Dick Hoyt, 65 now, has pushed his 43-year old disabled son Rick eighty-five times in marathons. Eight times he's not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a wheelchair but also participated in triathlons, towing him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars - all in the same day.

Take a look at the video and I'm sure you'll be impressed.

Impressed? More like humbled. What do I have to complain about? My kids are healthy.

At first I thought it was the dad who was trying to prove something to himself because his son had been born disabled... but when you see the look on his sons face punching the air in triumph as they both cross the finish line it's apparent he is doing this for his son and not himself...Very moving. Thank you for posting this. Rik.(Perth Australia)

Wow from Ontario, Canada. This heartwarming video touched my heart deeply, in fact it cut right to my soul. I am totally awestruck and inspired by these two amazing and devoted people. As the soundtrack music suggests, I can only imagine the devotion, spirit and pride that is typified and exemplified by this father and son team. Thanks for this.

Amazing.
A tribute to all the most noble in the human spirit.

Truly touching.

Amazing to me that anyone could believe in any god after seeing something like this.

Bad things happen to good people, and good people use love to overcome. We're all we have.

This was an amazing video! What impressed me the most was that this son has the chance to experience things most of never will. The devotion of his father and family is inspiring; playing hockey in the street and graduating! I am thankful for the video on one of many families that are like this.

No matter how many times I see this video, I always get a lump in my throat. I live in Hawaii and have seen them in the Ironman. I read an interview they did with the son, and when asked what his dream was, he simply said "To be able to have my dad sit in the chair and push him".......

I've seen this video so many times, and every time, I still tear up. It's such a touching tribute, and the song just does it for me. Amazing!

The song is what ruins it. Who could ever even want to believe in a cruel god who could do this to someone?

The man and his son are beautiful.

For those of you who are cynical and question how God could have done this: perhaps God "did it" to this family in order to show the rest of us what is possible if you love someone enough. Most of us don't really love our fellow man like we should. We stand there and stare at their deformity and say things like "awe look at that poor slob". What we should do is embrace them, pick them up, care for them and help them experience life. Some of you can't see God because you're looking in the wrong places. This man's love for his son exemplifies the love we all should have for each other. Thanks for posting this video.
