A Mosquito Ringtone - or Teen Buzz - is a cellphone ringtone that many adults (at least people over 30) cannot hear. This is due to presbycusis, a normal loss of acute hearing that occurs with advancing age.
In settings where cellphone use is forbidden - in class, for example - it's perfect for signaling the arrival of a text message without being detected by an elder of the species.

I really enjoyed this site. My cats can apparently hear some of the high frequencies that my (lower) 30-something ears can no longer detect.
Now I feel old :)
My daughter has this ringtone, and unfortunately as a result she now knows that my claim of being able to hear everything is complete nonsense!
Some of my students tried to get away with this during a lesson. They started giggling away, and I asked why. They explained the ringtone to me.
For the most part, I could not hear it. But when the phone was held in a certain position, I could hear it (as a high pitched buzzing noise - it was very irritating).
The only thing using this ringtone will serve to do, will be to force schools to ban all cell phones and other electronic devices (PDAs, MP3 Players) outright.
Two words:
Cellphone jammer. Every classroom should have one.
Lots of frequencies and formats available and mosquito ringtones - I could hear quite a few of them
