All About Snoring

Of normal adults, 45% snore at least occasionally, and 25% are habitual snorers. Problem snoring is more frequent in males and overweight persons, and it usually grows worse with age. The noisy sounds of snoring occur when there is an obstruction to the free flow of air through the passages at the back of the mouth and nose.

Snoring can be a serious problem. Socially because it can make the snorer an object of ridicule and causes others sleepless nights and resentfulness. Medically because it disturbs sleeping patterns and deprives the snorer of appropriate rest. When snoring is severe, it can cause serious, long-term health problems, including obstructive sleep apnea.

OSA has been directly tied to high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, fibromyalgia and a host of other disease processes.

Before you have an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor start cutting, PLEASE do some web research and see what the success/fail rates are 1-2 years post surgery. They aren't that great. See a Pulmonologist (Lung Specialist). There are other non-surgical alternatives that really work. I won't push you to a particular therapy...just DO YOUR HOMEWORK and GET IT TAKEN CARE OF!

My wife owns 4 sleep apnea clinics in San Antonio, Texas and I suffer from OSA myself.

My CPAP machine has changed my life. My wife can sleep now, and I'm not dead tired every afternoon. It's such a simple fix for a huge, virtually unseen problem.

If you snore, you have sleep apnea. Get help.
