I had to add my two cents in that he left off Stanislaw Lem (Cyberiad, Solaris), Ursula Le Guin (The Left Hand of Darkness), and Vernor Vinge (A Fire Upon the Deep). No list can be complete without these ground-breaking works in the history of sci-fi literature.
