Last Friday night, a tornado ranging between one and two miles wide swept through Greensburg, Kansas, destroying 90% of the town and killing at least nine people. See some aerials of the devastation.
They're saying the tornado was about 1.7 miles wide (about 2.75km) and left a path 22 miles long (a little under 35.5km). It's amazing the death toll wasn't much higher.
Also, if I've learned one thing from photos from Greensburg, it's that grain silos are pretty tornado-proof.
