Your Very Own Star

With FreeNameAStar.com you can name a star for free. You print your own certificates on your own printer. There are zillions of stars out there. Why pay for one?

FreeNameAStar.com has set aside a large set of stars. You can register a star name for free. You can then use the star map to locate your star or, if you have an advanced telescope you can program in the stellar coordinates and look at your star.

All star names are recorded in a database and backed up frequently. A hard copy is stored securely so that your star name will be yours forever.

I registered a star named Presurfer. It's a B8 star type with a magnitude of 6.9. It is located at 19h 17m 40s declination: 22° 26m 30s on the sky chart.

I looked up my star on the map and found it in the Vulpecula constellation. And you know what, it's only 933 light-years away.

You say "FreeNameAStar.com has set aside a large set of stars." What about the stars which haven't been set aside? What happens to them? Do they remain unnamed or are they due to be added once we've named the first set?

Every known star already has a name. Well, it's really an indication number.
