The Top Ten Strange And Unusual Japanese Chewing Gums

Japanese chewing gum differs from American chewing gum in many ways, and that probably is a result of the practical way Japan looks at chewing gum. Since it's merely chewed for a while and then disposed of, it just makes sense for chewing gum to serve some function, any function before being spat out.
This way of thinking can produce some very strange and unusual types of chewing gum. Here's a top ten list of strange Japanese chewing gums.

THE AWESOMER
The Awesomer is a daily blog filled with awesome stuff for guys (but ladies are always welcome). Initially conceptualized as a technology shopping blog, it's now more or less a massive repository for whatever we find interesting. We're like that closet that you throw everything into, albeit a bit more organized, and minus the ratty tee you've worn since freshman year.
In short, The Awesomer samples a bit of everything - from gadgets to news, from clothing to movie trailers. The more interesting/funky/goofy, the better.

Starlight/Starbright is a blog devoted to the musings, insights, random personal and philosophical questions, and occasional rants of an American woman in her 30's. You may also find some politics, pop culture, and pages about books and words I love.
It's only about a month old, so who knows what's to come? While I love to go on and on about myself (clearly!), I'm hoping my blog turns into a place where mine isn't the only voice being heard. So, feel free to visit and add your own thoughts (and answers to those random questions) and we'll see what we can create

6 Very Unconventional MMO Virtual Hotels
For most of us, booking a hotel involves checking out our favourite travel website or calling the hotel directly, but for MMO (massively multiplayer online) fans, it's a bit different. For MMO players, booking a hotel involves checking in to their favourite online virtual hotel within their MMO game of choice, whether it be Second Life, World Of Warcraft or one of the other games.
The biggest names in the international hotel industry are getting onboard with this trend for massively multiplayer online games. So next time your avatar needs a place to stay in virtual space, check into one of these virtual hotels where lodging is literally out of this world.

The World's Most Hideous Doll
Nightmares come in different forms. Some creep into your dreams as you sleep. Some lurk in dark corners. And some come in the form of sick, disturbing dolls.
The World's Most Hideous Doll stands about 16" tall and is made of firm, painted foam. As you can see, the doll is a baby with two heads. One head is relatively normal, while the other is your standard-issue demon-spawn creature from Hell.

How To Cook An Alien
How to cook an alien? Why should you eat aliens? Because aliens come here uninvited, they ate Elvis, they mutilate our cattle, and probe abductees by shoving probes in their rectum and performing other unspeakable acts upon unsuspecting victims.
They are plentiful, more plentiful than the strained seas and land resources, and they seem to be coming in increasing numbers. They taste good if prepared well and their meat is safer than British beef.
That's why you should eat aliens.

Firefox's Ubiquity
Yesterday Mozilla launched a new experimental browser plug-in that's going to change the way people interact with the web. You're used to telling Firefox where you want to go by typing web addresses into the URL bar.
With Ubiquity installed, you'll be able to tell Firefox what you want it to do by typing commands (in plain language) into a new Ubiquity input box.
For example, suppose you want to post something to Twitter. You bring up the Ubiquity window in Firefox and type the command:
twitter I'm experimenting with Ubiquity right now.
Then hit Enter. That's it, you posted to Twitter.
Another example. Right now, the email command uses Google Mail. Eventually the command should work with all major web-based email providers. Assuming you're logged into your GMail account, issue email. Then type something like:
email hello to mark,
assuming Mark is in your GMail contacts list. You'll be taken to your Gmail account, you click Send, and there you go.
Other things you can do with Ubiquity are look up something on Wikipedia, find a map, translate, calculate, search YouTube and Flickr, and lots more.
You can download Ubiquity at Mozilla Labs.
Here's a Ubiquity user tutorial.

The American Language In 3000 AD
Predicting the future of the English language is rather easy, in the short term. The odds are, over the next few decades its New World dialects are going to gain increasing global dominance, accelerating the demise of thousands of less fortunate languages but at long last allowing a single advertisement to reach everybody in the world.
Interesting article about the future of the American language.
For example, now we say:
We children beg you, teacher, that you should teach us to speak correctly, because we are ignorant and we speak corruptly...
In 3000 AD we will say:
Za kiad w'-exùn ya tijuh, da ya-gAr'-eduketan zA da wa-tAgan lidla, kaz 'ban iagnaran an wa-tAg kurrap...

International Angel Day
Doreen Virtue practices Angel Therapy. It's a non-denominational spiritual healing method that involves working with a person's guardian angels, to heal and harmonize every aspect of life. At a young age Doreen Virtue was clairvoyant, capable of seeing angels and other metaphysical beings.
The angels came to me and said, 'We want you to hold a day where people will give angel workshops worldwide on the same day and give part of the proceeds to children's charities in their different communities.' So I said, 'Ok, that sounds cool.' They told me to call it 'International Angel Day.'
International Angel Day is on September 7, 2008.

WEBPHEMERA
Why Webphemera? This may seem to you like a peculiar name – and it may not be a word that you have come across before. That's because it's made up! The word 'ephemera' means transient, everyday things that may be kept for a short time before being discarded. Often, auction sites will advertise items as ephemera when it really doesn’t fit in to any particular context!
So, away went the 'e' off the front on went the word 'web' instead. This blog's definition of webphemera is, again, everyday stuff, but stuff you may wish to go back to again and again.

Most Famous Trips In History

When Spain commissioned Ferdinand Magellan to find a westward route to the Spice Islands in 1519, the explorer commanded five ships and 240 men. Six years later, nearly every member of the expedition, including its commander, was dead.
When, in 1951, the American writer Jack Kerouac tried to find the words to convey his wayward journey through the United States and Mexico, he commanded a typewriter and a massive stash of Benzedrine. After a few weeks, the first draft of On the Road was completed.
These are just two of the journeys that have left indelible marks on our collective maps, and are endless sources of fascination. Here is compilation of some of the most famous jaunts of all time - both factual and fictional - that show us how far we've come, and where we might go next.

35 Greatest Works Of Reverse Graffiti
Reverse graffiti, aka clean tagging, dust tagging or grime writing, is a method of removing dirt from a surface while creating graffiti on walls or other surfaces. It is usually done by removing dirt/dust with the fingertip(s) from windows or other dirty surfaces.
Reverse graffiti can be created by using many different methods, the most well known would be words or simple drawing written into the dirt of cars that have not been kept clean. A more advanced and difficult method is done by cleaning the graffiti onto dirt in the street, this dirt is difficult to clean off and the graffiti is often created by scrubbing, aided with the help of a detergent.
Here are 35 examples of reverse graffiti.

A gallery of professional bike racers taken just moments after they crossed the line after a brutal long stage of 2006's Giro d'Italia. After a hundred miles of racing, the riders dump their and enter a makeshift tent for a quick photo among the finish line chaos.
The photos showcase the pain and suffering well, but some photos also capture a bike racer's most damaging feeling: doubt. Photograhpy by Timm Kölln.

We suspect that every military has a secret room full of stoned dudes who stare at the ceiling and just dream up shit to build. The difference is they have billions of dollars to make their dreams reality.
In support of our 'secret room full of stoned dudes' theory, we offer the following actual military projects that stretch the limits of the non-stoned imagination.

Wolfgang Von Kempelen's Speaking Machine
The first attempts to produce human speech by machine were made in the 2nd half of the 18th century. Professor of physiology Kratzenstein in Copenhagen succeeded in producing vowels using resonance tubes connected to organ pipes.
At that time, Wolfgang von Kempelen from Hungary had already begun with his own attempts that led him to construct a speaking machine. Von Kempelen was an ingenious person in the service of empress Maria Theresa in Vienna.
Von Kempelen's machine was the first that allowed to produce not only some speech sounds, but also whole words and short sentences.

Real Man's Olympics
Wasn't Bruce Jenner's accomplishment, winning the Decathlon, far more impressive than the feats of Mark Spitz, who won several gold medals in swimming. 'Real Men' don't shave their legs.
Medal counts simply don't work. The medal for prancing around a floor mat is not equal to the medal for super heavyweight boxing. The medal for jumping into water while making the smallest splash is not equal to the medal for throwing a 16-pound ball farther than anyone else.
Real Man's Olympics determines the winning country the only way possible: by basing a country's score on the manliness of each event won. Judged events get marked down. Redundant events get marked down. Events requiring men to wear nothing but skin-tight underwear get marked down.

Reading Test
You've probably seen this classic text somewhere on the Internet before:
Aoccdrnig to rseearch, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
Although the name makes little sense, it's called Typoglycemia, describing the cognitive processes behind reading written text. It demonstrates that readers can understand the meaning of words in a sentence even when the letters of each word are scrambled.
As long as all the necessary letters are present, and the first and last letters remain the same, readers turn out to have little trouble reading the text.
Now you can put your mind to the test and try to read your favourite websites in the same fashion!

Military Penguin Becomes A 'Sir'

A penguin who was previously made a Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian Army has been knighted at Edinburgh Zoo.
Penguin Nils Olav has been an honorary member and mascot of the Norwegian King's Guard since 1972. During the ceremony, Nils had a sword dubbed on each side of his head, where his shoulders should be, to confirm his regimental knighthood. A citation from King Harald of Norway was read out, which described Nils as a penguin 'in every way qualified to receive the honour and dignity of knighthood.'

In Search Of The Perfect Pork Martini
The pork Martini serves many needs on many levels! In these pomo days, when old formulas are reborn with futile twists for our fickle, fin-de-siècle tastes, the meat cocktail stands out above wobbly, cranberry-tainted attempts at bar trendiness.
When one abandons the olive garnish for that of a pork-rind wedge, the Pork Martini merges the flavors of the working class with that of wealthier ones, bridging social strata. It will open new markets to pork consumption, adding American jobs to every level of the meat-industrial complex. And, finally, it looks really weird.

A body that may very well be the body of the creature commonly known as 'Bigfoot' has been found in the woods in northern Georgia. DNA evidence and photo evidence of the creature will be presented in a press conference on Friday, August 15.
UPDATE: As expected, it's a hoax.

RUN ON EMOTION
ruN on eMotion forms a anagram of my name and its a collection of things found on the web which I then translate or write in my own words to Portuguese. My aim is to bring all these little wordly marvels to Portuguese people that don't understand English. Other days I just post music I like, thoughts that cross my mind or little stories I write when most inspired.

SON COSAS MIAS!
My name is Capitán Intriga and I'm from Buenos Aires. In the last four years I've been updating 'Son Cosas Mías!,' my personal blog. It's a miscellaneous collection of things found in my city or over the web, little games, and small events in my life. Although it's in Spanish, I believe it's quite universal. Please, if you have time, make me a visit. I'd love that.

Japan's Styrofoam Dome Houses

While styrofoam may be most commonly associated with disposable coffee cups, meat trays and packaging, prefab home manufacturer Japan Dome House Co. uses it to construct easy-to-assemble modular kit homes.
The Dome House is an igloo-shaped structure built from snap-together wall sections made of 100% expanded polystyrene foam. Unlike wood and metal structures, the styrofoam Dome House does not rust, rot or attract termites. It is also highly resistant to earthquakes and typhoons. In addition, the walls, which are treated with a flame retardant, emit no toxic fumes in a fire.

Can You Hear The Dots?
What is the sound of dots moving? Most of us can't answer that question, but for people with synesthesia, hearing such sights is the most natural thing in the world.
Synesthesia is a neurologically based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.
You can try it yourself. Look at the video below and find out if you can hear the dots. Play the movie repeatedly for best effect.
More info on this phenomenon.

The CERN Black Hole
In the eastern regions of France, near Lyon, bordering on Switzerland, lays the CERN facility which houses over 6,300 scientists working feverishly to bring online the next generation in basic particle super-colliders.
This massive Hadron collider is a magnetic ring, 27 kilometers (16.8 miles) in circumference, the most powerful particle accelerator in the world. The main purpose of this facility is to produce antimatter and black holes. Many people believe that if CERN were to produce just one stable black hole, it could destroy the world.
