Freezing can be a good way to prolong the shelf life of your food, but how long you can safely keep frozen meat, seafood, fruits etc. varies. In general, food should always be frozen at the peak of its ripeness/freshness.
Certain items like eggs, salads and potatoes do not freeze well. If you are freezing a liquid, it will expand in the cold temperature so be sure to leave enough room in your container. Here's an infographic on recommended freezer storage times for various foods.
