Formula 1 used normally-aspirated 2.4L V8 engines in 2013. This year they are using 1.6L V6 turbo engines armed with energy recovery systems, designed to give the sport a greener image. But not everyone is happy with the sound of the turbos.
They say the new engines could prove a turnoff for spectators accustomed to having their eardrums assaulted by a barrage of noise. Decide for yourself. Here's a sound comparison between the 2013 and the 2014 engines.

not as dramatic and seems half as fast
They used to sound like sewing machines. Now they sound like blenders. If you want sound, watch NASCAR.
It's the turbochargers that have muffled them.
