ASCII Street View

ASCII is American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a character-encoding scheme originally based on the English alphabet. ASCII Street View is a website that converts Google Maps' Street View into colorful ASCII art. It is done in WebGL by Peter Nitsch, who works in the labs of Toronto marketing firm Teehan+Lax. You'll need Chrome, Firefox 8+, or another browser that supports CORS WebGL textures.

Search for your address and see it in ASCII art. Pictured above is an ASCII view of the street where I live.

The only people fascinated by ASCII and 8-bit are those who weren't around when they were the only graphics available. "Retro" is highly over-rated.
