Giant Cruise Liner Passes Through Venice Canal

A giant cruise liner, equal in size to the Costa Concordia, passes through Venice's Giudecca Canal. This footage is authentic. No compositing or digital effects have been used. Director Ries Straver pulled the footage from his archives. It was filmed in 2005 from San Lazzaro, a little island in the Venice lagoon.

Even though they observe the 'no wake' rules, those ships are steered by very powerful bow and stern thrusters. They must be pounding the sides of the canal.

It took so long to see the ship that I was waiting for a scary monster to jump out and scream at me. Luckily, it's not October (Halloween), so I thought I was fairly safe. Patience, padawan, patience.
