Riding An Alpine Coaster With No Brakes

This is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria. You reach the summit via a cablecar and then sit on a small car with a brake lever and off you go. But what happens when you take the ride without using the brakes.

We used to visit Raccoon Mtn, TN, and ride the alpine slide every year. It's been dismantled now, but this brought back some good memories.

Maybe it's just that the video doesn't give a good impression of speed. Maybe it's because the rider's whoops sound so half hearted. Or maybe it's because you're on rails and not in any real danger of crashing.

Whatever it is that doesn't look nearly so thrilling as taking, say, a mountainbike down the same hillside.
