Race Car Driver Picks Up His Own Wheel

Jeroen Bleekemolen is a Dutch race car driver. During qualifying for the American Le Mans Series in Baltimore in the USA his car lost its left front wheel. Because qualifying has to be done on the same set of tyres you start with, he picked it up, and brought it back to the pits on the passengers seat. The car was repared an he later set pole position.

How can you call a race series in the US "Le Mans"? They wouldn't call a race series in France "Brickyard".

Guys, Le Mans is just the name of a race circuit. It isn't a class of racing.

Gareth, it's just a name. Why is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball called World Series while it's just the USA?

And the American Le Mans Series is a class of racing. The American Le Mans Series was created by American businessman Don Panoz in 1999.

Panoz created a partnership with the Automobile Club de L'Ouest, the organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, to begin a 10-hour race in the spirit of Le Mans.

Only in America I suppose. In the rest of the world they just call it endurance racing.
