Gerard, why is there anything to wonder about? Maybe they work in the construction industry, maybe they own the thing or maybe they just rented it. It's not like a backhoe loader is a restricted item in any way.
As for the anonymous coward, yes it's probably in europe a continent where people are allowed to have fun and where (in case you hadn't noticed) this blog originates.
