The Sutherland Sisters

The Sutherland Sisters of Lockport, New York, were world-famous for their incredible hair, which reportedly had a collective length of 37 feet. The Sutherland children were all musically inclined and often performed around New York State as the 'Sutherland Concert of Seven Sisters and One Brother.'

In 1882 the Sutherland sisters signed up with Barnum and Bailey Circus. The girls, Sarah, Victoria, Isabella, Grace, Naomi, Mary, and Dora, who ranged in age from 18 to 36, would file on stage in white gowns, their dark hair glimmering in the gas lights, and sing a selection of songs.
