American clothing company Gap has, through their advertising, established a cool, breezy, and sophisticated brand visual language that ties everything together nicely and, until now, their logo was the perfect little bow to keep it all together.
Without any fanfare, Gap rolled out a new logo. They probably had to pay Laird & Partners from New York - who designed the logo - a lot of money because those designer companies don't come in cheap. Many people commented that they could make the same logo with even the most simple design software. And a lot of people think the new logo is just crap.
To the left is the old logo, to the right the new one. Now, without spending thousands of dollars, you can create your own crap logo. Here's The Presurfer's crap logo.
Crap Logo Yourself.
Here's another Make Your Own Gap Logo where you can use more than 10 characters.

It's a very clever marketing ploy, they're eeeeeeevil!
Another liberal attempt to market mechanically separated chicken. Disgusting.
As a designer, I have to say that it's not about how easy it is to recreate a logo; it's about coming up with the concept. That being said, I'm flabbergasted that this is their new logo. It's hideous.
I like the new one better
I'm no designer but I know what I like, and I don't like this.
It looks like something you could make in Microsoft Word. I'm hoping this turns out to be a giant viral marketing thing.
On the bright side, if this is the future of branding design, MS Paint just got a whole new lease on life.
